Mandrel Extraction Device for Wound Tubes Made of CFRP or GFRP

Setting up for mandrel extraction

Pipes manufactured using the winding process, such as those made of GRP and CFRP, require a winding mandrel during the manufacturing process. However, this must be removed again after winding.
This requires a special hydraulic mandrel extraction device, which pulls the mandrel out of the pipe with a tensile force of up to 260 kN (~26.7 tonnes).

This apparatus, developed and designed by us, is suitable for pipes up to nearly ø1,300 mm and lengths exceeding 11 m. The pipe is held in place with an extraction collar and radially arranged extraction jaws. The extraction collar is pre-configured using collar plates adapted to the respective pipe diameter. This allows the same device to extract, for example, a pipe with ø800 mm as well.

For the purpose of extracting the mandrel, these extraction lens are mounted on a mobile steel frame (carriage), on which the tube with the mandrel is also positioned via custom-made tube holders.

The hydraulic extraction cross transfers the required breakaway force (to overcome static friction) to the mandrel. The further extraction process is carried out via the slide drive and a special, stationary mandrel coupling.
